On the ramps after Turn 1, trick off the edges instead of going through the hoops.
On the glider section, hold the control stick back and left and use a mushroom once the glider pops up to achieve maximum airtime.
Strategies
After exiting the water section, the next turn can be very chaotic, so be defensive.
Power items are very useful when used after the third set for the glider cut and dodging target shocks. This also applies to lightning due to preventing others from taking the shortcut.
If you place a Bob-omb at the exit ramp for the water section, it's almost undodgeable. Bob-ombs are also useful at the glider and the wide turn.
